Why Teenagers Love Invisalign

Teenagers do not enjoy traditional orthodontics in the slightest, and it’s no surprise as to why this would be the case. Not only can braces be painful for teenagers, but they also look and feel bulky in the teen’s mouth, are difficult to clean, and require frequent visits to the orthodontist. Thankfully, there is an alternative to traditional braces that teens here at Clearsmile Orthodontics prefer: Invisalign.

For years now, Invisalign for teens has been the preferred option for a number of reasons, including the following:

Aesthetics

First and foremost, teens appreciate the fact that Invisalign looks so much nicer than traditional braces. Rather than facing every photo opportunity with a mouthful of metal, students can capture natural moments with aligners that are basically invisible, while the implement can be removed completely for more formal photos. Teens are very sensitive about the way they look, which is why Invisalign creates a “clear” advantage.

Easier to Clean

Because the aligners is removable, it can be a whole lot easier to clean while also promoting better dental health. Braces are hard to maintain, and food can get trapped in between the wires and brackets, which obviously isn’t ideal for long-term dental health. It’s easier to brush one’s teeth with Invisalign, and the implement itself is easier to clean, too.

Better for Sports

Invisalign also is more ideal for the active lifestyles of adolescents. In sports, there is a constant fear that the wrong bounce of a ball may damage the braces themselves or worse—cut into a student-athlete’s cheek or lip. These trays are flat and smooth, making high-end activity a whole lot easier and safer for the teens participating.

No Food Restrictions

It seems like there are a million different foods that people are not allowed to eat while under the care of an orthodontist, including things like gum, chewy or hard candy, and crunchy raw fruits and vegetables. With Invisalign there are no dietary restrictions because, once again, the tray is removable so people can eat the same way they did before the introduction of their orthodontics.

Fewer Visits to the Orthodontist

Teens with traditional braces are required to visit their orthodontist monthly, while those using Invisalign only have to make an appointment once every 3-4 months. Furthermore, while traditional braces can take years to complete their process, Invisalign often is a 8-10 month process, which removes some of the headaches from long, drawn-out visits to the orthodontist. For students that need to be in school rather than getting their braces tightened, Invisalign is, once again, a preferable option for many types of teenagers.
