When Will I Need a New Set of Invisalign Aligners?

Do you find that you’re reluctant to smile even when something hilarious happens? Do you often cover your mouth with your hand when you speak or on those rare occasions when you do break out a smile? If so, you’re not alone.

Too many people hide what could be a gorgeous, enviable smile because their teeth aren’t as straight as they’d like. If your jaw is misaligned or your teeth are out of place, there’s no reason for you to hide your smile any longer.

For years, braces were the sole option for people who wanted to improve their smile. In the United States alone, over four million people wear braces, and nearly 25 percent of those individuals are adults.

Clearly, misaligned teeth are a cross-generational issue. Thankfully, this “issue” now has more than one solution. In recent years, Invisalign aligners have evolved into an affordable remedy for teens and adults who want to straighten their teeth.

What Are Invisalign Aligners?

To put it simply, Invisalign aligners are the tools that make it possible for an appropriately trained dentist or orthodontist to execute an Invisalign treatment. An Invisalign treatment involves you wearing a series of clear, removable aligners that straighten your teeth over time.

Invisalign aligners are made with a patented material known as SmartTrack. This thermoplastic material is approved by the FDA and it doesn’t contain any BPA, BPS, latex or gluten. These aligners are clear, thin and nearly invisible to onlookers.

How Often Will I Have to Visit My Doctor during Invisalign Treatment?

Many people considering Invisalign treatment are curious about how often they’ll have to visit their Invisalign doctor. During treatment, you’ll have to visit your doctor a minimum of two times, once for your initial consultation and a second time to pick up your Invisalign aligners.

While that’s the minimum number of times you’ll need to see your Invisalign specialist, it’s more likely that you’ll have to visit your Invisalign-trained doctor or orthodontist regularly throughout your treatment. Your doctor will create a custom treatment plan for you so you may have to visit your healthcare provide more or less often than another patient might. In general, it’s wise to plan to see your doctor every four to six weeks.

How Long Will I Wear My Invisalign Aligners?

There are two ways to answer this question. The first way is in the context of daily wear. Most people will have to wear their Invisalign aligners for 20 – 22 hours per day to get the best results possible.

The second way to answer this question is in the context of the length of time you’ll wear a set of aligners before you get a new one. Because Invisalign treatment is a progressive process, every new set of aligners will further push your teeth into proper position as time passes. For this progression to continue as planned, you’ll probably have to change to a new set of Invisalign aligners every one to two weeks in accordance with your doctor’s treatment plan.
